A sua volta, diversamente dall'italiano, l'uso di not in frase negativa impone l'uso di un ausiliare se già non ne è presente uno nella frase. - La forma contratta di not, ossia n't, si lega al verbo ausiliare precedente: non l'ho vista = I haven't seen her; non è qui = she isn't here; non è potuta venire = she couldn't come; si ricordino le particolari forme contratte negative di will, shall e can, cioè won't, shan't e can't.
